The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has warned that the combined influence of Tropical Storm Kujira (T2614) and Typhoon Dolphin (T2613) will strengthen the southwest monsoon, bringing widespread rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across Cambodia from Aug. 5 to 15, although neither storm is expected to make landfall in the Kingdom.

According to the Ministry’s announcement released on Wednesday morning, lowland provinces, including Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Thbong Khmum, Prey Veng, Kandal, Takeo, Svay Rieng and Phnom Penh, are expected to receive rainfall covering about 50 percent of their areas.

Highland provinces, including Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Rattanakiri and Mondulkiri, as well as the Dangrek and Cardamom mountain ranges, could experience rainfall across 60 percent of their areas, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.

Coastal provinces – Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot and Kep, including the Bokor mountain area – are forecast to receive the heaviest rainfall, covering up to 70 percent of their areas. Sea waves are expected to range from 0.5 metres to 1.75 metres in height.

The Ministry has urged the public, particularly those travelling by land or sea, to remain vigilant against heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds, adding that it will continue monitoring weather developments and issue further updates if conditions change.
