AKP Phnom Penh, October 7, 2026 --
Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has encouraged medical students and graduates to continue pursuing research, advanced studies and professional development in order to contribute to the sustainable development of Cambodia’s health sector with strong expertise and professional ethics.
Speaking this morning at the commemoration ceremony of the 80th founding anniversary of the University of Health Science, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underscored that obtaining a degree should not be regarded as the end of learning, but rather as the beginning of lifelong learning and continuous professional development.
“The degree you receive today is not the end of your learning, but the beginning of lifelong learning,” he said.
The Prime Minister urged medical professionals to continuously improve their knowledge and skills, conduct research and embrace innovation so that Cambodia can further enhance the quality and effectiveness of its health services.
Samdech Thipadei stressed that the medical profession requires not only solid technical knowledge and expertise, but also strong professional ethics, a sense of responsibility and an understanding of patients’ psychological needs.
“Doctors are not god, but they can perform the mission of god,” Samdech Thipadei said, highlighting the important role of medical professionals in serving and caring for people.
The Premier noted that the vast majority of doctors currently providing healthcare services in Cambodia have been trained domestically, demonstrating the important contribution of Cambodia’s medical education and training institutions to the development of the national health system.
Samdech Thipadei also called on all stakeholders in the medical professionalism to work together to continuously maintain and improve the quality of medical education and healthcare services.
The Prime Minister emphasised that each generation of medical professionals has a responsibility to build upon the achievements of previous generations and ensure that the quality of healthcare services in Cambodia continues to improve.
He further encouraged the medical sector to transform and move forward with quality, innovation and effective practices in order to contribute to the Royal Government’s goal of achieving universal health coverage in Cambodia by 2035.
Samdech Thipadei underlined that medical education should go beyond professional knowledge, medicines and clinical skills. Medical professionals should also develop a proper understanding of psychology and learn how to communicate with and understand their patients.
The Prime Minister expressed his confidence that continued investment in human resources, education, research and professional ethics would help Cambodia build a stronger and more capable health workforce capable of responding to the country’s evolving healthcare needs.
