Prime Minister Hun Manet Reaffirms Cambodia’s Position on Border Issues in Informal Discussion with Thai PM
AKP Phnom Penh, June 19, 2026 --
Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has reiterated Cambodia’s position on border issues with Thailand following an informal discussion with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in Kazan, Russian Federation.
The Prime Minister confirmed that Cambodia adheres to peaceful resolution in accordance with international law regarding border issue with Thailand.
On maritime boundaries, he stated that both sides should continue to proceed with Compulsory Conciliation under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), which both Cambodia and Thailand are already engaged in.
Regarding land border issues, Samdech Thipadei reaffirmed Cambodia’s position to continue using the existing bilateral mechanism, the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), in accordance with existing agreements.
He also urged Thailand to appoint its JBC chief and to begin joint survey and demarcation works as soon as possible, in accordance with Joint Statement of Dec. 27, 2025, Point #3, which both Cambodia and Thailand signed.
On the matter of reopening land border crossings, the Prime Minister stated that there is currently no need to discuss the issue at this stage.
