AKP Phnom Penh, September 18, 2026 -- The primary function of Cambodia's Ministry of Information is to direct and manage the information and audiovisual sectors while coordinating public relations across government institutions, Minister H.E. Neth Pheaktra said Friday.

He made the remarks during a lecture on the Ministry's organisational structure, roles, and responsibilities at the Command and Staff Institute in Kampong Speu province, attended by over 400 officials and trainees.

H.E. Pheaktra emphasised that the Ministry is tasked with safeguarding press order, press freedom, and freedom of publication across both traditional and modern media platforms. It is also responsible for delivering comprehensive national and international news to the public while regulating media content and advertising in accordance with the law.

"The Ministry of Information serves as an executive body for the Royal Government in public relations, information management, and information space management," the Minister said. "We collaborate with competent authorities to help maintain information security, digital security, and national security."

He added that key priorities include modernising mechanisms for managing news and public opinion, as well as formulating strategic communication plans.

The lecture comes as the media landscape undergoes rapid evolution, driven by the growing importance of digital technology and modern communication tools.
