AKP Phnom Penh, September 27, 2026 -- Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, held bilateral meetings with his Iranian and Nigerien counterparts on Sept. 26 on the sidelines of the General Debate of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the United States.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Prak Sokhonn met with H.E. Dr. Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, for their first meeting.

During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening friendly relations between Cambodia and Iran and expressed their readiness to further elevate bilateral ties.

Looking ahead to the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2027, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to jointly prepare for the 2nd Bilateral Consultations at a mutually agreed date and venue.

The Cambodian top diplomat also briefed his Iranian counterpart on the latest developments regarding the current situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

Later in the morning, H.E. Prak Sokhonn met with H.E. Bakary Yaou Sangaré, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Nigeriens Abroad of the Republic of Niger.

The two Ministers discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation, with Cambodia expressing its readiness to work with Niger in trade, investment, agriculture, education, culture and tourism.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two Ministers signed an Agreement on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Cambodia and Niger.

The agreement lays a foundation for friendship and regular exchanges between the two countries and opens opportunities for further bilateral cooperation in the years ahead.
