PM Says Cambodia Still Has More Infrastructure to Develop
AKP Phnom Penh, October 1, 2026 --
Although Cambodia has developed considerable infrastructure over the years, the country is not yet satisfied with its infrastructure development and will continue investing in and expanding its infrastructure network, Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet said.
Responding to some criticism on social media concerning the country’s road development, the Prime Minister said Cambodia had made considerable progress in infrastructure development, but more work remained to be done.
Speaking at the inauguration of National Road No. 10 in Veal Veng district, Pursat province, this morning, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet emphasised that the Royal Government would continue building and improving infrastructure to support transport, economic activities and people’s livelihoods.
As an example, the Prime Minister highlighted the need to better connect Cambodia’s waterways. Although Cambodia has both rivers and access to the sea, these waterways have not yet been fully connected for efficient transport.
Samdech Thipadei said the Funan Techo Canal project is expected to provide such a waterway connection by 2028, linking the country’s river system with the sea and further strengthening Cambodia’s logistics and transport network.
According to the 2025 Annual Progress Report on the Implementation of the Comprehensive Master Plan on Cambodia Intermodal Transport and Logistics System 2023-2033, released by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport on Feb. 25, 2026, Cambodia had a total road network of approximately 20,734 kilometres in 2025.
The figure represented an increase of approximately 426 kilometres compared with 2024, when the country’s total road network stood at 20,307 kilometres.
The report noted that Cambodia’s road network plays a vital role in transport and contributes to national economic growth by facilitating the movement of goods, agricultural products and passengers.
