AOT Conducts Field Visit to Cambodia-Thailand Border at Boundary Pillar No. 27
AKP Phnom Penh, October 1, 2026 -- The Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) on Thursday facilitated a field visit for the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) to observe, verify and report on the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border at Boundary Pillar No. 27 in Banteay Meanchey province.
The field visit took place at 10:10 a.m. at Boundary Pillar No. 27, located in Thmar Romiel Lech village, Banteay Chmar commune, Thmar Puok district.
The observation mission was aimed at providing the AOT with a comprehensive and direct understanding of the situation at the agreed boundary pillars between Cambodia and Thailand.
It also demonstrated the Royal Government of Cambodia’s consistent position of resolving border issues peacefully through dialogue and bilateral mechanisms, in accordance with international law, existing bilateral agreements and the mandate of the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC).
Cambodia maintains a firm position on safeguarding the international boundary line between Cambodia and Thailand, which was inherited from the Commission of Delimitation of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam.
According to the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence, Cambodia’s position is based on strict respect for international law, the principle of the inviolability of frontiers (Uti Possidetis Juris), the Franco-Siamese Conventions and Treaties, the Protocol concerning the delimitation of the boundary, and maps resulting from the demarcation work of the Commissions of Delimitation of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam.
The Ministry also cited the Procès-Verbaux of meetings and Procès-Verbaux of Abornement of the Commissions between Indo-China and Siam, the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the 2003 Terms of Reference (TOR), as well as other relevant agreements and documents previously agreed upon by both sides to resolve disputes peacefully and achieve lasting peace between the two countries.
